Food review: The best pizza? Naples hands down!

We eat a lot of pizza. We eat pizza a lot. At least every couple of weeks. We have our ‘premium’ local pizzeria, along with our ‘everyday’ take out. Every time I have pizza or I think about pizza I recall our trip to Naples and the Amalfi Coast in 2011. Our three days at the start of our time in Italy began with a pizza at around 10pm after landing at the airport and getting our transfer to our B&B. We love Italy – so many beautiful things to eat and see! This is our Food Review: The best pizza?

Experience

Looking out of our window (which had been thrown open as the room’s air con was not yet cooling the room!) a small restaurant was down the back alley with many many patrons enjoying themselves. And the smell!!! It was divine – it was a lovely, garlic, tomato, yeasty smell and we had to find it! Down the four flights and around the building, over the alley with broken glass and we found our goal – pizza.

Light, slightly bubbled crust, with a dash of fresh tomato sauce, lightly seasoned with basil. Unctuous, gooey buffalo mozzarella oozed over the surface. We valiantly tried to eat it all slowly, but it was divine!

The Best

Over the next couple days, we had many great meals, pizza being three of them! Food Review: The best pizza? L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele. One size pizza, only two for real consideration – a Margharita or a Marinara. We enjoyed both!

Runner Ups

My favorite here in Victoria, British Columbia is Prima Strada Pizzeria. With a broad selection and a great atmosphere, it is easy for both eat-in and take out options. A very close second is 900 Degrees Wood Fired Pizzeria. Both are in-keeping with the same Neapolitan traditional thin crust, with lovely simplistic toppings.

Enjoy!
