The UMANI RONCHI CASAL DE SERRA VERDICCHIO DEI CAS The UMANI RONCHI CASAL DE SERRA VERDICCHIO DEI CASTELLI DI JESI is a lovely, clear, straw coloured white wine from north-eastern Italy. It’s lemon citrus and stone aromas also reveal a slight floral note I can’t quite put my finger on initially. On the palate, it becomes clearer - lemon zest, wet stone and a rosemary herbaceous note absolutely sings. The bright acidity and balanced alcohol are beautiful in this complex, full bodied white wine. I loved this white wine! An unexpected and delicious wine tasting to share An unexpected and delicious wine tasting to share today! We were doing our ‘day in Sidney’ for some seasonal shopping, and as we passed by @thefarmersdaughter.co we thought ‘hmmm….that smells good let’s see what’s in there’ and in we went. Lunch menu looked right up our alley - wine, cheese, french onion soup, grilled cheese sandwiches, etc. We both opted for french onion soup, with a wine flight each. I had the ‘War and Peace’ - white wines from Alsace; and Troy had the ‘Tropic of Cancer’ - reds selected by the Sommelier. I started with an excellent Riesling from Trimbach: fruity, peachy and lively, with warm citrus notes - the acidity balanced well with the gruyere in the soup. Second in the flight was a Gewurtztraminer from Pierre Sparr. A 2020 Grand Reserve, this one was my favorite of the flight. A complex, floral, lychee, passionfruit explosion, this full bodied wine had a long off-dry finish but what a finish! Third in the flight was a Mauler Pinot Gris from 2018. This was a rich, complex, full bodied pinot gris with some apparent aging and time on the lees, giving a lovely mouth feel. Again, superlative with the onion and gruyere soup. My annual panettone! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this bread, My annual panettone! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this bread, and you can’t beat it when baked fresh from your oven! This year, for this first round, a batch of 3 x 300 gram ones. Looked small at first, but, after the second rise, not so much! Grand Marnier infused sultanas, thompson raisins, candied orange, and some shards of white chocolate - yummy!! In the pics, day two, following the biga, and first fridge rise - roll out, press fruit into the dough, fold and form the dough, and then put in molds for the 2nd rise; then slice the tops and butter for the bake.
