Travel review of Hobart. Humanoid exclusion zone!

We’ve been fortunate enough to visit Hobart a couple times in the last ten years. First, in the Spring of 2014 via a Celebrity cruise from Auckland to Sydney, and again in Spring 2019, we headed to Auckland, New Zealand, and Hobart, Tasmania. This travel review of Hobart shares a bit of both of those experiences.

First Visit

On our first visit to Hobart we ventured on a foodie walking tour. We love these. We highly recommend them for any one that wants a better understanding of the culture and experiences of the city and its people, and to get a ‘taste’ of life there. Gourmania Food Tours was excellent! In addition to my husband and I, we enjoyed the company of a TripAdvisor employee who was validating a submission on the tour for on its website and in its tour books. A bright sunny day in a beautiful coastal city eating wonderful local food – it was bliss!

Second Visit

On our second trip, we were lucky enough to visit with friends of ours who live just outside of the city of Hobart. We had met Vivian & Gavin on our Baltic Sea cruise on Azamara Journey a couple years before. While visiting, they suggested we enjoy a day at MONA, Museum of New and Old Art. It was absolutely phenomenal. The very avant-garde art installations were only surpassed by the very tasty morsels at Faro. All manner of game is on the menu, but, really, the atmosphere and presentation are very much at the forefront.

If our eating habits and the different, out-there artwork didn’t lead you to introspection, the signs on the grounds will!

We also visited Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary to check out some recent rescues – so cute and so relaxed!

Recommendations

Eat:

We enjoyed a lot of home cooked meals, but, when we did go out, we enjoyed the following: Frogmore Creek for a lovely lunch at their vineyard location. Modern, artistic plating and very tasting offerings! The Lounge by Frogmore Creek in Hobart was lovely for a dessert and coffee following dinner and a stroll through the city. Da Angelo Ristorante was excellent for an authentic Italian dinner in Battery Point. For fresh seafood, we enjoyed Mures Upper Deck.

Activities:

In addition to MONA and the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, we enjoyed touring wineries through the Richmond area; the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, and endless walking through the city of Hobart.

An absolutely beautiful city!
