Travel review: Barcelona – a favourite thing

We have immersed ourselves in Barcelona 4 times and we love it more each time. The running joke between Troy and I is if he departed this world tomorrow, I would be there the very next day! It is the most comforting city, and has a certain something about it that draws us back. The people, its layout, the approach to daily life are a perfect fit for us. This travel review: Barcelona shares with you why. For more of our experiences in Spain, check out our travel review of Seville.

Our Recommendations for this travel review: Barcelona –

Accommodations:

Barcelona is perfect for walking if you are centrally located. Our last two times in the area, we rented through Friendly Rentals. In 2010 on our most recent long stay there, we were able to find a lovely 1 bedroom apartment at Placa de Catalunya overlooking an inner courtyard, it was quiet, and had a lovely view (4th floor with elevator). We look for apartments with full bathrooms (tub please!), a kitchen, washer & dryer, and a comfortable living space.

Activities:

We walk and walk and walk. We also love to enjoy the cultural promenade from 5pm – 7pm or so and then enjoy a drink/tapas at a local bar. During the day, La Boqueria, walking down along La Barceloneta, Gothic Quarter, and El Born hold some beautiful architectural wonders, and fun vibes.

Eating:

For us the place of choice is Cal Pep. Introduced to this beautiful restaurant by family in 2010, each visit to Barcelona (and every referral) has included a visit here. It is not a short lunch or short dinner – it is a joyous engagement where the food and drink and atmosphere combine into a one of kind experience. An event! Go with an appetite, and you will leave much later very happy! La Quinze Nits, in Placa Reial is great if you are new to Catalan/Spanish cuisine and want a value spend. Be patient – the line up goes quick once open!
