These Retro Celebrity Glasses are Amazing!

Shortly we will be embarking on a cruise around south western Australia on the Celebrity Edge. (link is only available till cruise is sold out!) We haven’t been on this ship before, nor this class of ships. We will be doing a review of it for this blog! You can check out our review of the Celebrity Flora here. Anyways, we were looking at some older travel pictures and saw these glasses. This post is to share with you all a blast from the past with Celebrity glasses!

When we looked at the older pictures, we realized that we had glassware from two of our past cruises. Our ‘Ultimate Caribbean’ in 2000 on the Celebrity Zenith; and, our ‘Mediterranean Cruise’ in 2005 on the Celebrity Millenium. This was figured out by looking at the pictures in an album (pre-digital!). Brought back lots of memories, including how we got these glasses.

Celebrity Glasses – How it worked

On our cruise in 2000, there was a group of six of us. We met up at a hotel in Florida and at the pier and went through embarkation. Once onboard, we were handed the requisite bubbly or mimosa to celebrate. We walked around the cruise ship, finished that drink and wanted another one. These tropical cocktails in these decorative glasses were available and handed out. I can’t quite recall if we paid more for them or not. However, I do remember making sure we kept a couple on the first cruise to ensure we had a memento!

The drink in the glass was one of the recipes noted on the back of the glass.

I believe it worked that way again – or similar – on our Mediterranean cruise, except we felt compelled to bring four of them home.

Celebrity Glasses – Current Times

I’m thinking that it is likely that they continue to do this with their specialty drinks on embarkation day if not on other days of the cruise. However, as we’ve moved away from mixed sugary drinks (for the most part!) we haven’t sought them out.

25 years later, and we still have these glasses. They are great for highballs, and have done well. We do hand wash them and try not to put them in the dishwasher. I’m sure I’ve thought a few times of getting rid of them, but, they do remind us of some amazing fun times on our earlier cruises. The focus then was more about HOW much to drink vs. WHAT to drink!

Have you seen these too? Do you have any? Please share in the comments.

Our upcoming trip activities – wine tasting, activities, and cruising information – will be posted on this blog. Please check them out here!

Cheers!
