Wine

These ‘Twist of Fate Cocktail Co’ cocktails were absolutely wicked!

Having recently successfully completed my WSET Level 3 course here in beautiful Victoria, I’ve been continuing my journey with varied wine tastings.  But there is more than wine out there!  Creative cocktails are on tap with this Victoria-based company, Twist of Fate Craft Cocktails.  Read this tasting note from early 2021 on Victoria’s Twist of Fate to learn more!

Background

In late 2020, the new year came for 2021 without much fanfare given COVID and the restrictions in place.  We had reached out to a number of our friends on New Years Eve (earlier than normal this year!) because we missed seeing them.  We were very happy when we received an email from a friend to join them and others for a remote cocktail party given all the restrictions!

Not just any cocktail party.  What made this one unique is Twist of Fate Craft Cocktails.  With COVID, they moved to a model to allow them continued business, and that included this ‘curated cocktails delivered curbside to enjoy with your friends, via zoom!’

How it Works

It was a relatively easy process.  Basically, our host reached out to them to:

  • Let them know date
  • The number of people

The host then:

  • Confirms with all guests the date/time
  • Emails guests with the link to select their drinks

The cost was $35 for each household (2) mix, and an additional $19 for another second mix if desired.  (we opted for 1 household mix).

The mixes are delivered to the hosts’ door.  Within the bag are directions, mix, garnish, along with equipment you will need to get together.  When you go to select your drinks, you are given recommendations on alcohol for the mix.  You can use what you have at home, or, buy what they recommend.

Zoom!

On the day of the cocktail party, we were sent the zoom notice and we had some snacks prepped.  With the bag of mix and our instructions (and alcohol of choice) we were ready to go!

It was a great way to meet a few new folks – 2 of the couples were new to us – and a great way to reconnect with friends.  The host from Twist of Fate provided historical background of cocktails and the drinks, as well as trivia which made for great fun.  They provided instruction, if required, on how to make your cocktails, and answered questions.

Summary

We had an absolute blast!  A great way to try new cocktails and enjoy company of friends in a structured setting.  We opted for the ‘Bubbles & Botanicals’: Mix with gin. Rosemary black pepper syrup, prosecco syrup, grapefruit juice. Recommended spirit: Victoria Distillers Empress 1908.

Get some friends together, and try something new!
