Travel review: Seville during Semana Santa
In March 2013 we took advantage of a free cruise credit (Troy won it!) with Celebrity to squeeze a cruise in during a busy spring. After a brief visit with family in London, we flew down to Seville, Spain. Read this travel review: Seville for more details.
Seville was a heady mix of old world charm, big city with a village feel, and lots of old, memorable attractions. After checking in at the Melia Sevilla, we enjoyed a lovely dinner in the lobby of the hotel. The most obvious choice for dinner was the house specialty – paella!
Our first three cruise days were in Seville, so we enjoyed a fantastic Tapas Tour . We found this company online, run by a Canadian expat from Winnipeg. After visiting about 6-7 bodegas and having such great food & drink, it was a bit easier for us to convince ourselves to wander to work it all off!
The Reales Alcazares/Royal Palace, Plaza de Espana and the Giralda/Cathedral were all highlights. The city was full of cordoned off walkways and paths to accommodate the floats for the celebration, and seats setup. It made for a few detours, but, great to see so many beautifully dressed up locals enjoying their wonderful city and the Semana Santa events.
At a beautiful and temperate 25 degrees celsius it was perfect for strolling.
