Food Review: Charelli’s Valentines Dinner
There are a number of things which have made things easier during the pandemic. For example, pick up and delivery of food from more establishments. The ability to still indulge in the same things we indulged in before at least in our own homes. And, having celebratory dinners similar to previous years. Read this Food Review: Charelli’s Valentine’s Dinner for more details!
We’ve been going to Charelli’s for years. Pre-covid, our annual Christmas parties were complemented by their cheese trays. Periodically on a Saturday you would find us picking over all the delicacies in their shop. And in the last 3 years or so, we have enjoyed some wonderful wine and champagne tastings, complemented by excellent appies.
We first happened upon their Valentine’s Day Dinner for Two about 3-4 years ago. This year was the third time we signed up for the dinner. All set up to order on their website, you pay for the dinner for two ($99). You receive a confirmation, and a follow up reminder email to let you know when you can pick up your meal on Valentine’s Day. An amazing 4-course dinner, with all the fixings, to enjoy in the comfort of your home! With (or without) your own bottle of wine.
This Years Menu
- Cheese & Antipasto Platter: an extensive selection of cheeses, salumi, olives to enjoy pre-dinner. Served with a baguette from local favorite Fol Epi
- Endive Salad: frisee, endive, and some lovely apple slices with lardons for a savoury touch. Hazelnuts and a sweet/tangy vinaigrette complete.
- Ossobuco: cross-cut veal shanks braised with vegetables, white wine and broth. Divine.
- Garlic Mashed: smooth, creamy, with a hint of garlic.
- Roasted Vegetables: carrots & squash, along with zucchini and brussel sprouts. Great complement to the richness of the meal.
- Chocolate Symphony Solitaire: OMG! We could eat this every single night. Light, chocolatey, creamy goodness.
We paired it with an excellent red wine, Penfolds Bin 128 Coonawarra Shiraz. Check out the wine tasting notes on this jammy wine!
As you can see from the pictures, the portions were plentiful. Directions for reheating and presenting were provided. Along with a rose, a candle, napkins, and our dinner was complete!
Charelli’s is located on Foul Bay Road in Victoria. They are cheese mongers, specialty food merchants, and caterers with gifts galore in their store. In addition to their store, they now have meals, sandwiches, soups and salads and snack boxes available all from their take-out menu.
